Congratulations Jacob Romero for Winning the Body Glove USBA Sport Chalet US Open
A beautiful final day for Bodyboarding went down on Day 4 at The US Open of Bodyboarding in Huntington Beach, presented by Sport Chalet. Competition began with multiple heats for the 13-18 Semi Finals and Finals. Trevor Kam, JB Hillen, Shawbaz Soaia and Rocket Klein are the new generation of bodyboarders, whom showed a fierce competitiveness in the water today.
The sun greeted us with the sun and the south swell started to pulse 3-4 waves through the pier, for the Open Amateur Semis and Finals. Standouts were Trevor Kam, Jesse Walsh, Rocket Klein, and Hunter Fedden. Rocket Klein, the youngest competitor in the amateur division represented the US well, as he charged it hard today in the water.
Next up, keeping the flow riding going in Drop Knee Semis and Finals were riders such as, David Hubbard, Bud Miyamoto, Matt Hamilton, Chris Won, Nick Ashby, Jeff Vycital, Micah McMullin, and Jesse Walsh. The DK Pro Final, which brought David Hubbard, and Bud Miyamoto dominating the heat with Micha McMullin, and Jeff Vycital not finding the right waves to make it into the top two positions.
The beautiful ladies of the Bodyboarding world graced us with their talent in the Semis, Quarters and Finals today. The sun and waves were strong for the Finals, giving the crowd a good show to watch. Karla Costa Taylor, Tara Parsons, Vickie Reale, and Claudia Ferrari all went their hardest out in the water. Karla came out on top ripping consistently on each wave taken.
The Men’s Pro Quarters, Semis and Finals were exciting to watch throughout the day, as all the guys kept the action going! Wave riders from all over the globe, such as Guilherme Tamega, David Hubbard, Nick Ormerod, Joe Grodzen, Jones Russell, Wesley Fisher, Jacob Romero, Jeff Hubbard, Dan Worley, and David Philips are just some talent whom were representing their countries in the water today.
The Men’s Pro Final provided the riders with a spitting south swell and good ramps. It was the Kauai rippers Jeff Hubbard, David Phillips, and David Hubbard battling against Maui charger Jacob Romero. They were all going hard with style, and giving the judges a reason to pay attention to the water. David Phillips and Jeff Hubbard both took waves back to back, throwing synchronized moves; it’s like they were in each other’s heads. But the highflying Jacob Romero proved himself throughout the heat to be the best, by cruising with style and consistency. Romero scored the title for the Men’s Pro 2010 USBA Champion!
Following the Men’s finals was the Sling for Bling Tow Out event, showcasing Jorge Colomer, Drew Erickson, Hunter Fedden, Bud Miyamoto, Jason Bitzer, Jeff Hubbard and David Phillips. The waves were not frothing much, but it was a fun event for the contest goers to watch for sure.
The awards at The 2010 Sport Chalet US Open of Bodyboarding had an amazing show of support by the Huntington Beach Patrons. The USBA announced its tour Champions and we want to congratulate Jacob Romero- Men’s Pro Champ, Karla Costa Taylor- Women's Pro Champ, Trevor Kam- Open Amateur Champ, JB Hillen- 13-18 Amateur Champ, and David Hubbard- Drop Knee Pro Champ.
