Falling In Morro Bay

With success comes failure. Couple of outtakes of Daniel and Shelby from this past weekend in Morro Bay.
This looked like it hurt. Daniel got up to the next sequence.

I think the was the last wipe out before he let Shelby have a go at it.
Putting the brakes on a miscue with the wench.

One of Daniel's passes that didn't go as planned.

Wakeboarding In Morro Bay With Daniel Doud

Went up to Morro Bay on Friday to shoot some wakeboard action with Pro Wakeboarder, Daniel Doud and Shelby Kantar. Daniel was building a double rail system at a pond near his house. He had been working on it for the last 3 days and was just about finished. So we didn't get to start shooting till Saturday morning.
Scott Smith was up there filming parts for the upcoming wakeboard movie for Body Glove called Slick City. Here he interviews Daniel about what he is about to do. For the last few years Daniel said he wanted to wakeboard across the sand dunes across the harbor in Morro Bay. Since you can't drive boats or jet ski's in the harbor he needed to use a wench. A motorized pully controlled by his buddy that would pull him into the dunes. We got started around 8:45 a.m. at high tide.
Daniel's first few pulls were successful. He would ollie over the wetsand onto the dune and ride across. He tried a few passes to get the feel of it and then he went high on the dunes.
Here he is hitting it close to the top.
And then he tried incorporating tricks. As you can see this one didn't go to well.
Shelby Kantar tried after Daniel was done. At this time the tide dropped and Shelby had to ollie farther which made her hit the dune rather than glide into it.
Here is another good wipe out by Daniel. Perfect leg extention.

This was Shelby after her last wipe out. She was over it. After this we packed up. Went down the street in the bay and had breakfast. Hung out with his family for awhile and then headed over to Los Osos to the pond and ride the rails. More photos to come.

TEAM RIDER SHELBY KANTAR BRINGS WAKEBOARDING TO SACRAMENTO STATE

As reported on Alliance Wakeboarding Magazine. By Shelby Kantar

Earlier this semester, Armain Austin from Red Bull presented me with a great opportunity. He told me that he wanted to work with me on putting together some contests or events to progress the sport of wakeboarding. Because I have been so busy at school and haven’t had much time to spend on the water, I decided to bring the water to the school. On May 6, 2008, Sacramento State got its first taste of what the wakeboard team does when we are not studying in the library. While everyone else was partying at the West Side Spring Ride, my good friend Jacob Locken and amazing boyfriend Daniel Doud and I spent the weekend buying materials, fixing the pools, and building the most epic school rail jam in the history of Sacramento State.

The whole team came out on Cinco de Mayo and passed out flyers and helped set up the pools and the rail. The hardest part about the set up and the most expensive was the ramp that went from the start pool to the landing pool, but after Tuesday’s events, the ramps were a total necessity. Tuesday couldn’t have gone any better. We started the sessions around 11:00 AM and went until 4:00. Red Bull totally hooked us up with all of the supplies to build the rail, a sick DJ, and free drinks! At any given time we had at least 100 people in the crowd, and when classes got out we had somewhere in the vicinity of 400-500 students stoked on the event. We had a lot of students who didn’t even know that Sacramento State had a Wakeboard Club, so we look forward to growing the club and progressing the sport. Thanks to all of those who helped set up, especially Daniel and Jacob for working so hard!
