"When my sponsor, Body Glove, gave me the opportunity to make a contest in Puerto Rico, I thought about all the girls who want to learn to surf. So I created this event to transmit all the experiences I got from different competitions around the world. Women’s surfing has been growing around the world and I want to bring that growth to my Island, Puerto Rico. This event means another step for the surfer girls on the island. I want to make the girls feel important and show them the importance of what they are doing, surfing. People who surf know that is not an easy sport and requires a lot of practice, dedication and love to learn it. But in the end we learn how amazing it is doing the sports that makes up your life style. When I started surfing on my Island there were about five girls surfing everyday somewhere in the Island. But now we can see more than five girls on the pick at the same time. I want more girls in the water that love surfing and it is why I created Mujeres del Mar Surf Event. With this event we give support, dedication and love to all those girls who feel like surfing is in them. It is the second year that Body Glove is supporting the event, helping to the develop more women surfing on the Island. At the end of all stress, meetings, calls, etc. I can say that the event fills my soul with a lot of happiness and gets me full of positive energy, to see so many girls from all ages on the beach smiling, laughing, enjoying and of course surfing." - Maria Del Mar

Mujeres Del Mar Surf Contest in Puerto Rico

The 1st annual Mujeres del Mar Pro/Am Women & Women's Learn to Surf Day took place yesterday at Jobos Beach in Isabela, Puerto Rico. Body Glove Team Manager Matt Chernega and Jenna Meistrell went to Puerto Rico to support this amazing event. The top female surfers showed up to battle it out for cash prizes. Not only was the surf perfect for the event but with the music alone we could have rocked out on the beach all day.

We would like to thank Maria Del Mar and her family and friends who put on the event. Also Raul Ruiz and his family for delicious BBQs and hospitality, Mundo Rad for showing their support and of course Frank the MC!!!

Redondo Beach, CA – May 3, 2011 – Body Glove is proud to bring Drop Zone: Fiji to the South Bay. The official hometown premiere of the award winning series will play at Redondo Union High School on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 6:30pm. The Redondo Ohana O’ Kekai Club is donating the proceeds from ticket sales to The Jimmy Miller Foundation.

Drop Zone: Fiji follows four world-class surfers; Alex Gray, Holly Beck, Cheyne Magnusson, Bede Durbidge and Maria del Mar, as they travel the south pacific to visit pristine dive locations, surf some of the most epic waves on the planet and swim with bull sharks. One of the film’s stars, Alex Gray, will be on hand to introduce the movie and answer questions afterwards.

Good Morning!
I hope you had an awesomely sunny, red white and blue 4th! It was my last weekend in California for a while and I caught up with my friends from Body Glove in Hermosa Beach. We just got back from Fiji filming another Drop Zone where we surfed epic Cloudbreak, swam with manta rays, and dove with bull sharks!

Body Glove also finally released the short film "We Love Sharks" by Scott Smith which shows me getting a chance to be a part of tagging a whale shark, travel adventures in Mexico, and outside of the cage with great whites. Awesome experiences!

Finally, in less than 48 hours I will be headed back home to Nicaragua! I can't wait!!!
I'll be co-hosting a surf, yoga, volunteering trip with SYRV.org August 30 - Sept 6. We'll be surfing, doing yoga, and helping to complete the community center which will allow the local village access to sewing machines, computers, after-school programs, and clean water! Join us!!!

Erica Hosseini- Look out Reef Girls

The Body Glove Team of Cheyne Magnusson, Erica Hosseini and Maria Del Mar have been down in Nicaragua hanging at Holly Beck's house surfing and shooting for some upcoming boardshorts and bikini campaigns. Below is an up to date post from deep in Nicaragua from Holly Beck.

First let me say we scored really fun waves this morning and got some great shots. We split up the team to maximize our productivity. Cheyne and Rob Giley went to check out a super shallow slab for tube shots and Mike Balzer, Scott Smith, and the ladies took a panga out to a big open water left reef. We all scored. It was a couple feet overhead but pretty mushy. Great for photos with a big drop and a solid turn but not at all scary.

Day one the beach out front was solid and hollow and good. The next day we went to a smaller playful beach. It was waist to chest high and mushy, but good for turns and photos.

Yesterday afternoon we went on an adventure to go check a bunch of other spots which involved some cool local scenery and off-roading, tide pool shell hunting, etc. We have been surfing a ton and getting some great shots. I hope you enjoy the first couple behind the scenes shots here. There will be a lot more coming.
