Blue Whales off the Coast!

Last week Bob Meistrell took the Body Glove boat out looking for whales and we hit jackpot. Amongst balls of krill and bait, birds and dolphins we found 5 Blue and a group of Minke whales. The largest whale was around 50 feet. It was amazing to see the abundance of sea life off the coast of Redondo Beach!

Body Glove’s Nate Yeomans Wins the Cold Water Classic!!

Redondo Beach, CA – November 9, 2009 – Congratulations to Body Glove team rider Nate Yeomans on winning the O’Neill Cold Water Classic! Yeomans killed it in the 6-star Prime WQS event at Steamers Lane in Santa Cruz on Sunday in solid overhead northwest swell.

“I can’t believe it,” Yeomans said. “This is the biggest result of my career and I’m speechless. I’ve been winning 2-Stars for too long and it was time for a big 6-Star win. To have my name up there with all of the great surfers who have won this event over the years is amazing.”

The San Clemente native claimed the top spot in the final over Australia’s Heath Joske and worked his way through a stacked field of local and international surfers. Yeomans dominated the final heat posting a solid 15.33 heat total. The victory brings his points total to 12,925 and shotguns Yeomans into the #8 spot on the WQS ratings, giving him a great opportunity to qualify for the 2010 ASP World Championship Tour.

"Body Glove wetsuits is super stoked on Yeomans performance and is excited that he has is nearing his goal to qualify for the 2010 ASP World Championship tour," said Scott Daley, Body Glove’s VP of Marketing.

The next stop is Hawaii, where Yeomans looks to continue dominating and maintaining his position in the top 15 for the coming 2010 WCT season.

Congratulations Nate from the whole Body Glove family, you killed it! Can’t wait to see you in Hawaii!

Congratulations Dusty Payne on Surfer Cover

Body Glove rider Dusty Payne sure knows how to end the year right, by scoring another SURFER cover. Dusty is on the front page of Surfer’s December issue, a mere two covers since his September issue cover shot.

The epic picture was taken during a trip to Indo. On the cover Dusty claims, “it was the most scared I’ve ever been. I’ll never surf there again”. Which is a shame, because that shot is awesome!

Check out the latest issue of Surfer magazine out today and huge congratulations to Dusty from the entire Body Glove family!!!!! Keep killing it!

Drop Zone: Dive-In ™ – Inspiring the Next Generation of Divers

Exciting New Program to Stimulate the Dive Business

Redondo Beach, CA – 1 November 2009 – “Drop Zone: Dive-In” ™ makes its official launch at Believe! the PADI pre-show event at the opening of the Dive Equipment Marketing Association (DEMA) tradeshow. Drop Zone: Dive-In is a groundbreaking step-by-step guide to attracting Generation X and Y to scuba diving and into dive retailers.

Body Glove, PADI, Sport Diver and Transworld SURF partnered to create the wildly successful, and award winning documentary Drop Zone: Tahiti, which premiered at the Hard Rock Hotel during DEMA 2008. The movie is based on the travels of 3 young pro surfers, Holly Beck, Alex Gray and Cheyne Magnusson, who toured the globe in search of what lie above and below the oceans surface. “Drop Zone: Dive-In” builds on the foundation of Drop Zone: Tahiti and brings to life marketing and retail strategies designed for Dive Shop Owners to attract Generation X and Y. The mission of “Drop Zone: Dive-In” is simple, inspire new young divers and keep divers diving!

“We believe the Drop Zone Dive In program has the potential to help spur growth in the diving industry by ‘young-ing up’ its image, which will attract new divers of all ages,” said Russ Lesser, President of Body Glove International, “Body Glove is proud to have helped develop the concept by teaching our young professional surfers to become divers also. We hope this program benefits all aspects of the industry, including retailers, manufacturers, instructors, the travel industry, and more.”

The “Drop Zone: Dive-In” program helps dive retailers demystify diving for novices, young-up the sport and gets existing divers into your shop to buy more products. Learn how adding new product categories and introducing easy marketing initiatives can bring in a whole new age group to your shop and increase store revenues. Discover the use of social networking and environmental initiatives as tools to stir activity in Generation X and Y.
