Bob Meistrell Named Man of the Year!!!!

Body Glove’s co-founder, Bob Meistrell, named Man of the Year by Redondo Beach!

June 15, 2009 – Bob Meistrell, one of Body Glove’s founders, was honored Friday night with Redondo Beach’s highest tribute, Man of the Year. The awards ceremony was hosted at The Portofino Hotel in the King Harbor Marina and the Body Glove family was on hand to congratulate our fearless leader.

Bob was saluted for his volunteer work and time given to the city of Redondo Beach, particularly this last year. He spearheaded an effort to recover and rebuild the bronze bust of George Freeth that was stolen off the Redondo Beach pier in August 2008.

“It is truly an honor to be named Man of the Year,” said Bob Meistrell “That bust of George Freeth was a piece of Redondo Beach history, there was no way I could just let something like that happen to our city.”

After retiring from the day-to-day operations of Body Glove International a few years ago, Bob decided to spend more time on his philanthropic endeavors. You can find him at many charity events all over the South Bay, often offering his Body Glove yacht, the Disappearance, as an auction item. He does have a soft spot for the coastal areas. Over the years he has instituted a system to help keep the King Harbor Marina trash free, he sat on the board of the Catalina Conservancy for many years, was on the Steering Committee of the SeaLab, sat on the Finance Committee of the Cabrillo Aquarium and was on the board of the Switzer Learning Foundation.
