Wake Team Shines In TransWorld Reader's Poll

Congrats to Harley Clifford for landing in the top spot once again on TransWorld WAKEBOARDING's annual Reader's Poll. After landing double flips in contests and winning the King Of Wake title, Harley really couldn't have had a better year.

With a highly successful reality docu-series on MTV called WakeBrothers,  Bob Soven's popularity has transcended wakeboarding. His fun-loving antics and explosive, stylish riding helped him seal the deal for spot number 3. Rusty Malinoski is always a fan-favorite and ended up in 4th, with a bunch of popular web videos and killer magazine coverage.

WakeBrothers Premieres July 25th

MTV's new summer series WakeBrothers is set to premiere July 25th at 8:00 pm PST. This 12 episode season will feature the life of Body Glove professional wakeboarder Bob Soven, and his older brother Phil. Between their competitive rivalry in the water, and the insane pranks they constantly pull on each other, this is a must watch tv show this summer.

A Friendly Reminder From Body Glove

Redondo Beach, CA, May 7, 2012 – For those in North America, it’s that time of year again. You’re tuning up your boat for the season, assembling your crew and checking all your gear. Sometimes, riders will forget one essential element. This piece is not going to help you ride better and doesn’t have anything to do with going big or even looking cool, but it has one primary purpose: to save your life.
Most people will have forgotten or haven’t heard about the pro rider from Discovery Bay, California, who lost his life in Texas on May 6, 2000 – while not wearing a vest of any kind.  His early passing was a huge wake up call to everyone involved in the sport and we noticed a difference. WAKEBOARDING Magazine (now TransWorld WAKEBOARDING) even implemented a vest policy, which was summed up by “no vest, no shot in the mag.”
Since then, wakeboarding has diversified greatly, which is great for the sport. Cable parks, winches and PWC’s are now a great alternative to riding behind the boat. Through this diversification, there is a huge grey area regarding the use of vests.
Even Body Glove’s own Bob Soven struggled with the concept, “For my latest cover with TransWorld WAKEBOARDING, I chose to ride with a shirt over my Vapor pullover,” Soven said. “I guess I was going for a ‘street’ look, but I now realize I was promoting a bad image to the youth and every other rider out there. Fact is, staying safe is number one, having fun is number two (and red hair is optional). I can’t say it enough to encourage you to wear a vest no matter what activity you are enjoying. If you’re feeding birds in a bird pond then you are excused, but anything else, throw on that life vest and consider a USCG approved PFD. I thank Body Glove for showing us what’s most important -- staying alive and keeping those around you safe to enjoy another summer.”

After a few phone calls and a "good to go" from the Body Glove team, Trever Maur and Josh Twelker made a trip from the west to the east for a quick meet up with the cream of the crop, Rusty Malinoski, Jeff McKee and Bob Soven. Nothing less than a good time was in store for the Body Glove team as they hit the water and shredded their faces off.

Body Glove Team Rider's New Years Resolutions

We asked our OH SO TALENTED team riders what their New Years Resolutions were. We got some pretty wild responses... hope you enjoy!!!

Jeff McKee: I'm looking to put together the best video section of my career this year for Slingshot's "Lipsmack" team video premiering in May. If that goes according to plan, I'd like to celebrate by going to my first ever rave. Take all my friends in an RV out to the middle of nowhere and then dance our asses off. We may have to go to Germany for this, not really sure...Hopefully the field is filled with soap bubbles too. That would blow my mind.

We are waiting for our invite!

Matt Pagan: My new years resolution is to build a piece of furniture, considering my dad is a building contractor and to win a big event this year :)

Austin Ware: I am going to make an effort to be more creative in my way of life.

Cheyne Magnusson: My new years resolution is to not make resolutions. It’s also to get a haircut.

James Balzer: Ride a board every day of the year (skateboard, snowboard, wakeskate, waterboard, or whatever), Learn how to swim, Spend over $5000 on boat gas. That’s like 250 sets (man i would be so good), Not swear (oh crap this going to be an easy one), Hold my breath for over one minute, Land the flip (wakeskating, of course), Never cut my hair, Cut my lawn to look like a baseball diamond all year.

Balzer you are too crazy!

Rusty Malinoski: Stop eating fast food three times a day.

Harley Clifford: Invent a bunch of new tricks this year, Win King of the Wake again, Get good at surfing, Go to California and eat In N’ Out Burger.

Harley Clifford Wins Wakestock Canada

History Maker Rusty Malinoski

Bob Soven, Harley Clifford and Rusty Malinoski all made history this weekend in Reno. Bob swept the tour winning all 5 stops and taking first place in the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard tour in the Jr. Men's Division. Australian phenom Harley Clifford, only 15 years old, is the 2009 MasterCraft Pro Men's Champion. The youngest person to take the title since Parks Bonifay. And Rusty Malinoski pulled out the biggest trick the wake world has seen. He enters the history books as the first rider to land a 1080 in contest. Congratulations to Bob, Harley and Rusty!!!
