The 2012 Watermans Ball was yet another amazing event this year at the Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel. SIMA honored Shane Dorian as Waterman of the Year, Sean Collins the Lifetime Achievement Award and Jean Michel Cousteau the Environmentalist of the Year. Check out some photos of the event below...

25th Anniversary of "North Shore"

25 Years after the release of North Shore staring Matt Adler, Gregory Harrison, Nia Peebles and John Philbin (Turtle) the cast reunites all together for the first time joined by writer Randal Kleiser (Grease, Blue Lagoon, Flight of the Navigator) and Director William Phelps (Bob Marley, the Legend Lives Documentary) for a special screening to a sold out audience followed by Q and A.  Since the movie’s release in 1987 it has gained a cult following of surfers around the world. The cast talked about their experiences making the film and the impact that it has had on their lives over the last 25 years. Event was hosted by the American Cinematheque of Los Angeles

Surf Summit 15- San Jose Del Cabo

I am sure that most of the surf industry is always excited for SIMA's Surf Summit. This year it was again held in San Jose del Cabo. In addition to our Body Glove crew we brought down Jean Michel Cousteau and marine biologist Holly Lohuis to share their passion for ocean conservation with the surf indsutry. In between conferences we had a little time to scuba dive and play around on the waves. Check out our photos of the event:

BearBack Surf Contest 2012

The 5th Annual Bearback Surf contest took place last Saturday. I am not sure what was more unusual to see.. 30 guys surfing with no wetsuit or a handful of them either nude or in girls bikinis. The photos and poem below will tell it all!!

The ocean kisses my toes.
My brain says, "NO!"
but my body goes.

I cringe, look around,
Too late to back out now.
What is wrong with me?
Can I fake an injury?

The ocean kisses my knees,
I start to chatter, I start to freeze.
Jimmy and Greg are staring me down,
Too late to back out now.

The ocean kisses my balls,
I see Chyo go over the falls,
I wonder aloud,
Is it too late to back out now?

These other guys can't be as cold
As my old bones,
I could be warm at home,
I howl, "IT'S TOO LATE TO BACK OUT NOW!"
