Wakeboarding In Morro Bay With Daniel Doud
Went up to Morro Bay on Friday to shoot some wakeboard action with Pro Wakeboarder, Daniel Doud and Shelby Kantar. Daniel was building a double rail system at a pond near his house. He had been working on it for the last 3 days and was just about finished. So we didn't get to start shooting till Saturday morning.
Scott Smith was up there filming parts for the upcoming wakeboard movie for Body Glove called Slick City. Here he interviews Daniel about what he is about to do. For the last few years Daniel said he wanted to wakeboard across the sand dunes across the harbor in Morro Bay. Since you can't drive boats or jet ski's in the harbor he needed to use a wench. A motorized pully controlled by his buddy that would pull him into the dunes. We got started around 8:45 a.m. at high tide.
Daniel's first few pulls were successful. He would ollie over the wetsand onto the dune and ride across. He tried a few passes to get the feel of it and then he went high on the dunes.
Shelby Kantar tried after Daniel was done. At this time the tide dropped and Shelby had to ollie farther which made her hit the dune rather than glide into it.
Here is another good wipe out by Daniel. Perfect leg extention.
This was Shelby after her last wipe out. She was over it. After this we packed up. Went down the street in the bay and had breakfast. Hung out with his family for awhile and then headed over to Los Osos to the pond and ride the rails. More photos to come.

Mike Losness Scores 2nd Place on Innersection TV
Congratulations to Mike Losness on 2nd place and qualifying for a section in the new Taylor Steele movie at Innersection TV. Below is a repost of the Q&A on the site at http://innersection.tv/news/57.
I came home one day and found my wife watching Mike Losness' section... again. Now, my wife doesn't really care about surfing that much...she just thought it was a rad video. A lot of other people felt the same way.
Is it possible that surfing can have an appeal beyond surfers? Of course. Films like Sipping Jetstreams and The Drifter have already proven that. Good filmmaking is beautiful to watch, no matter what you're into. And good surfing ain't so hard on the eyes either.
Creative concept. Solid filmmaking. And sick surfing. It seemed impossible that Losness wouldn't make the Top 5. And it was. —NM
WERE YOU FEELING CONFIDENT ABOUT MAKING TOP FIVE? I wasn't telling people I made it yet until this morning, when I heard from Taylor. That's my personality. I'm wary until the very end. But I was hoping.
YOU TOOK A REAL PROFESSIONAL APPROACH TO THIS WHOLE THING. MUST FEEL GOOD TO SEE IT PAY OFF? Yeah, totally. I wasn't 100% sure I doing it until January, and as soon as I commited to the trip to Bali and the other one to Barbados, and I knew I had some alright footage, that's when I committed. And if you're gonna committ, why not commit 100%? That's when we hit up Facebook, hit up sponsors, really tried to get some support. I wanted people to go and not just check out my video, but check out all the sections. Once they see all of them all, if they still liked my section, that's all the better.
RIGHT BEFORE YOU UPLOADED, DID YOU SECOND GUESS YOUR LASER BEAM EYES? LIKE YOU MIGHT BE THE ONLY GUY TO SHOW UP TO THE PARTY IN A COSTUME? Well, when I was in Bali saw Marlon shooting in Kuta with Logan. I saw him making a big effort, so I knew I better do something creative. The only thing I was nervous about was if the title "Insurfnia" was too cheesy.
IT CAME OFF COOL. EVEN IF THERE WAS NOTHING BEYOND THIS, YOUR SECTION WAS RAD ON ITS OWN. A lot of people were really stoked. So, that's what mattered most to me.
IT WAS COOLER THAN WATCHING DUDES WALKING UP THE BEACH. I think you guys put it out there for people to be creative, but since I talked with you guys in person while I was in Bali, I think I got a bit more inspiration to go ahead take a risk. Maybe some of the other editors weren't as comfortable taking that risk.
BUT WE COULDN'T BE SURE PEOPLE WERE GOING TO REACT TO THAT. BUT THEY DID, SO HOPEFULLY FUTURE SECTIONS WILL COME IN WITH CREATIVE IDEAS. I think if the other editors would have know that we were gonna do those types of edits, they might have done 'em too. I thought all the parts were gonna be more weird like mine. And when I saw that only half were like that, well, I wished they all had been. It would have been more fun to watch. I think in the next round there will be a lot more weird stuff. I hope so.
THAT WAS THE MOST EXCITING PART OF THIS ROUND FOR ME. SEEING PEOPLE'S RESPONSE TO THE CREATIVITY...THAT THOSE SECTIONS DID REALLY WELL. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE COME UP WITH NEXT TIME AROUND. Going into this, I wasn't sure I could make the Top 5, let alone be a contender for the $100-grand. I've always based my chances on this being purely surfing related. But now that I watched the sections, I think any of the guys who qualify have a chance at the $100k. Because people really like that creative stuff — and it's the people who decide. Before I thought that only Slater or Dane or Jordy could win it, but now it seems maybe anyone can win.
BY "ANYONE," DO YOU MEAN YOURSELF? Hey, I'm just going to try my hardest to make the best section I can. What happens after that is out of my control.
HOW MUCH ARE YOU ROCKING THAT SONG IN YOUR CAR AS YOU DRIVE AROUND THESEDAYS. TONIGHT!! I'm kind of done with that song at this point. I've heard it enough the last month it was like tonight, tonight, tonight a million times. I'll bring it back to the car stereo in a bit though. Just not right away.
WILL WE BE SEEING LASER BEAM EYES ON THE DVD VERSION? Not quite sure. I like the whole dream concept and the thinking about surfing in your sleep idea and the insurfnia disease. I'm sure we will mix it up and do something different but keep the themes going. I've got plenty of time to think about it.... just want it to be fresh and new.
NOW THAT YOU'VE QUALIFIED FOR THE FILM, DO YOU THINK YOUR SPONSORS WILL BE MORE LIKELY TO HELP CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS TAKING THE NEXT EDIT TO A HIGHER LEVEL? That's a good question. I could approach them and see what they have to say about it. I know they were stoked to see the section I made. I am sure they will want me to do something more and would be willing to help me out. They are all really supportive. I like having the filmers and editors take a big role. They make it happen...I just do the surfing and give ideas here and there.
UNION EXPRESS. CASTLES IN THE SKY. MELALI (THE LOST DRIFTER SESSIONS). REEF MOVIE. AND NOW INNERSECTION. YOU CAN BASICALLY JUST SPEND 2010 GOING TO YOUR OWN PREMIERS. OMG, WHAT ARE YOU GONNA WEAR? I'm just stoked to be a small part of all these films. It just brings back fun memories from travels and times I spent with friends. It makes me stoked that I actually get to do this for a job. I couldn't be happier to see all the memories come back to life on the screen. I'm stoked!
WHO DO YOU THINK GOT THE FIFTH SLOT? I'm guessing Nat Young. He had some great footage from California. I liked some of the airs and the slow mo stuff; good backside combos, too. If he got on a proper film trip with some other guys all filming for innersection that he would raise the bar. He's young so probably wants it bad. I would say he is a good investment on the 5th spot.
CONGRATS, AGAIN. MY WIFE LOVED YOUR SECTION. OH, AND I DID, TOO. Yew! So glad you guys liked it. I'd like to say thanks to everyone who watched my video and voted for me. I'm so excited to be in this movie and could not have done it without your vote. Thank you.

MIke Losness Makes Taylor Steele's Top 10!
Taylor Steel’s Innersection has narrowed the field and Body Glove rider, Mike Losness, has made it through to the top 10. Not only did Losness qualify to the next round, he is sitting in first with a score of 38/40.
Innersection.tv invited 50 of their members — people who viewed everything, commented on the sections, and rated fairly (not just 10s and 1s) to send in their Top 10 lists. The first 40 Members that replied became their first official judges. Every name on their list scored 1 point — so, for example, Mike Losness was on 38 of those Top 10 lists...he scored 38/40.
1) MIKE LOSNESS — 38/40
2821 views, 599 ratings, 6.0 average
2) NATE TYLER — 37/40
3) DYLAN GRAVES — 37/40
4) MIKALA JONES — 32/40
5) TAYLOR KNOX — 31/40
Mike ‘s section, “Insurfnia,” brings light to a condition where many surfers may find themselves as newly diagnosed patients. “Insurnia” is defined as the mental disease that tricks the victims mind into believing that sleep will never be achieved; brought on by strong, adrenaline inducing thought patterns of surfing. Filmed from Bali, El Salvador to Barbados and back, Losness’s case of Insurnia is an accurate diagnosis in his premier part.
We are proud to have Mike Losness representing the Body Glove family and encourage you to view, vote, and set up your very own top 10 list of riders, with Losness on top of course. To view Mike’s section and secure his spot on top, go to http://innersection.tv/video/46. Voting will commence on March 20th. Sign up now and rep your boy!

Mike Losness Releases New Segment on Innersection.tv
Body Glove rider and San Clemente’s free surfing fiend, Mike Losness, sees Taylor Steel’s newest movie project, www.Innersection.tv, as an opportunity to unleash some new footage, promote his sponsors, and solidify his reputation amongst the surfing world.
Wasting no time, Mike’s freshly filmed part will be up for voting during the first cycle of Innersection beginning Monday, March 8th. With only 2 months to film and edit, Mike delivers the goods regardless of pressure. Labeling his section “Insurfnia,” Mike brings light to a condition where many surfers may find themselves as a newly diagnosed patient. “Insurfnia” is defined as the mental disease that tricks the victims mind into believing that sleep will never be achieved; brought on by strong, adrenaline inducing thought patterns of surfing. Filmed in locales ranging from Bali, El Salvador to Barbados and back, Losness’s case of Insurfnia is an accurate diagnosis in his premier part.
Straight from the surfer’s mouth, Mike gives his opinion on Innersection; “It’s going to be one of the biggest websites in surfing. As soon as the first cycle is up on March 8th, who knows? There may be 500 surfers who have uploaded videos, and tons and tons of people are going to watch them. I think it’s a great place to show my surfing talent to the masses."
Always creative in and out of the water, Mike’s been conceiving new art between filming for multiple surf flicks. To see more from Losness and other team riders, check the Body Glove blog for updates. http://www.bodyglove.com
We are proud to have Mike Losness in the Body Glove family and encourage you to view and vote for his video. To view Mike’s section and secure him a spot in the top 10, go to http://innersection.tv/video/46. Voting will last exactly one week beginning march 8th. Sign up now and rep your boy!
Holly Beck stars in Mother Hips music video - Are You Free
Back in December, Body Glove team rider Holly Beck got the chance to star in a music video for her favorite band, the Mother Hips. Amaury Lavernhe Wins 2010 Turbo Bodyboards Pipeline Pro Presented by Body Glove
Conditions were epic, with perfect 8 to 12 feet Pipe and light offshore winds all day, keeping the thousands that lined the shore thoroughly entertained for the 2010 Turbo Bodyboards Pipeline Pro Presented by Body Glove .
Amaury Lavernhe of the Reunion Island was the one who came up trumps, blitzing through his final heats.
Lavernhe threw down the gauntlet to his combatants in the final with an outstanding combined wave total of 17.50, which included a perfect 10 for a huge pipe barrel to backflip. He then backed his perfect score up with a 7.5 for another huge barrel to roll.
Lavernhe took out Diego Cabrera of the Canary Island with 14.65, Jared Houston of South Africa with 14.20 and Damian King from Australia with 10.75.
"I am so stoked, I can't believe it" Said Lavernhe. "I have been here for 3 weeks and I have been training for this day. I just took this heat by heat and I didn't want to think too much about the final".
Diego Cabrera, who has come off the back of a win at the last IBA World Tour event at Confital in December has continued his stellar competitive run.
"This is my dream, I am very very happy as this is the first time that I have ever been in a pipe final and the second time in a Grand Slam final" said Cabrera.
Though Jared Houston missed out on second only by .45 points, he was thrilled with his performance in the competition after spending over 3 months on the North Shore in preparation.
"I am so stoked, this is everything that I have been working towards this year so I am so happy that it has paid off" said Houston
Terry McKenna, the IBA International General Manager, who was also one of the key drivers behind this event is thrilled with how the comp rolled out in 2010.
"There was not a better way to begin the 2010 IBA World Tour season" Said Terry. "Winning this event is only second to winning the world title, I am thrilled that Amaury has won this event as he is the deserved winner".
The 2010 IBA World Tour now movesto New South Wales in Australia for the Soldier Beach Pro International from April 12 to 18.
